Château Léognan spreads in the heart of a pastoral estate. It has been admired for more than one century, protected in its green wild setting.

Vineyards were planted as early as 1989. Grape varieties are made of 75 % Cabernet Sauvignon and of 25 % Merlot. The density of plantation is 1000 grape-plants for one hectare.

Vineyard has been matured in the Pessac Léognan tradition. Thus, it was offered as a rental system when vines were planted and brought to excellence by its famous neighboring Estate, Grand Cru of the Appellation until 2006.

Human hands are everywhere. They provide constant care to shape double Guyot pruning. As we respect environment, we analyze treatments for we have learnt how to feed our soil .Wine–growers experience allows to work in all weathers. We also green harvest and thin out leaves before the great celebration which heralds autumns when we pick grapes, fruit of earth and of sun.

We always pick our grapes manually. Harvests begin during October, depending on ripeness of grapes of each plot. ‘Cutters’ put grapes in crates not to crush berries and to protect them from oxidation when they are on their way to cellars.

Our vine harvest is thought and made to protect grapes all their way to tanks. Grapes are immediately poured into stemming machine by gravity as soon as they are in wineries. Then, grapes are brought on automatic sorting conveyors to keep only quality fruit. Finally, another manual picking is made.

Thus, the carefully sorted grapes are brought to the top of the tank with the help of a peristaltic pump to avoid any berries’ damage. It is only at that time that grapes are crushed. .
